KidsMakeItRight kicks off in 2 Philadelphia locations

SmartyPal launched our new after school program at McCall Elementary School and Starr Garden Rec Center over the past few weeks.  The first of our projects by our Planet Protectors at Starr Garden are hot off the presses!

Our first session teaches kids about some of the problems that trash, especially plastic, cause for us and our environment.  We talk about the 3 R’s –Reduce, Reuse, Recycle– and what happens to the trash we throw away.  We focus a lot on the people and animals that are affected.  At KidsMakeItRight we really believe that building compassion is one of the most important things we can do to make the world a better place!

In our second session kids see what kinds of trash are the biggest problem by taking a tour of the area.  Unfortunately, it isn’t hard to find examples of trash in most places!  Once we tally up the different kinds of trash we see, our Planet Protectors make posters that try to get people to Reduce the most common types of trash they saw.

Plastic straws, utensils, and cups were some of the most common pieces of trash we saw.  They are also easy pieces of trash to reduce since most of them are not really necessary.  Quite a few of our Planet Protectors really focused on those!
