Philadelphia Mayor Kenney Responds to the KidsMakeItRight Planet Protectors!

Philadelphia Mayor Kenney Responds to the KidsMakeItRight Planet Protectors!

One of the last activities of a KidsMakeItRight project is reaching out to other “difference makers.”  We think about people who could be influential in helping us address a problem we noticed during our sessions.  In our Planet Protector Project at Starr Garden, the kids drafted a letter to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, making him aware of the lack of recycling bins in Starr Garden Park and asking for his help in solving that problem (see the letter here).  A couple of weeks later he has responded!

Below is his response, including links to what Philadelphia is doing to clean up and how Philadelphians can get involved!  And don’t forget about our KidsMakeItRight poster gallery; use them to spread the message around your community!

Thanks Mayor Kenney for your response and for caring about keeping our corner of the planet clean!

Dear Brian,

Thank you for writing to me. I appreciate hearing from you.

I am committed to keeping our city as clean as possible. That’s why I recently created the Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet to help address the concerns that you raised. The Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet is an interdepartmental effort to continually reduce the waste entering landfills or conventional incinerators, combat litter, and enhance the cleanliness of streets and public spaces. As you know, the Cabinet recently presented a plan for how to cut down on waste and reduce litter throughout the city. I would encourage you to visit their website to learn more about their work at http://cleanphl.org/. If you would like to get more involved in keeping your neighborhood clean, please check out this link.

Thank you again for reaching out.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jim Kenney
